A WELDER’S EYES
Welding is a fabrication method whereby metal or even wood parts are fused together by means of heat or pressure.
Welding involves a skilled personnel that uses intense heat and gas for metal constructions and repairs. These heat and gases are seen as welding arcs and give off UV radiation, visible light, and infrared radiation. These radiations are extremely dangerous to the eye especially on a frequent and direct exposure to the welding arcs.
In addition there are dangers of fast flying debris entering the eye while welding.
Exposure to welding arcs results into the following:
* Flash Burns or welders arc.
* Photo-keratitis
These conditions are characterised with the following symptoms;
* Pain.
* Irritation of the eyes.
* Blurry Vision
* Increased sensitivity to light
* Watering eyes
* Bloodshot eyes
If you experience any of these symptoms, get an eye examination done at a standard eye clinic immediately.
To be efficiently protected while at work, Use your Welding helmet in addition to 100% U-V blocker glasses. The welding helmet will protect your eyes from the bright light and gas emitted while welding and the U-V blocker glasses will protect from radiations from welding arcs.
