Accommodation
Accommodation is the process by which your eyes changes optical power to maintain a clear image of what you see as your viewing distance varies.
If you are looking at something close up, the eye performs 3 tasks which are;
1. The two eyes comes together ( convergence).
2. Your pupils constrict to increase depth of focus.
3. There is increase in lens power because it relaxes.
And conversely, to focus on far object, the opposite of the above process occurs.
Accomodation weakens as we age, leading to presbyopia.
Presbyopia is the normal, age-related loss of accommodation that happens as people age which usually starts around the age of 38 and above.
Fortunately, there are a number of presbyopia management options to choose from, including eyeglasses with progressive lenses, bifocal glasses, and Multifocal contact lenses.
