WHAT DO YOU THINK COLD ENVIRONMENT DOES TO YOUR EYE?
Cold environment can be a room with very low temperature or the extreme cold that we experience at early hours of the day during harmattan, or being in a vehicle with its cooling system at maximum. All these examples and similar examples constitute what can make one be in cold environment, and we will talk about the effect it may have on the eyes!
Being in extreme cold can have the following effect on your eyes
1. It can cause your eyes to dry out, this means the cold will dry out the tear film that lubricates your eye and this will result into you experiencing symptoms such as burning eyes, blurry vision, sandy sensation in the eye and water could also be coming out of your eyes in some cases.
2. It can cause you to experience pain, this is because when the temperature is low, your eyes have tendency not to open completely to prevent your cornea from freezing, therefore when you forcefully open the eye completely, you will experience some bit of pain or discomfort in the eye.
3. You may experience light sensitivity, cold temperature sometimes can make you unnecessary light sensitive especially if you are sensitive to light on a normal day.
When you are in a cold environment, these are some of the things you tend to experience and the moment you are out of the environment, within few minutes, you should be relieved of the problems and your eyes back to normal.
